Medarot DUAL’s reception

29 11 2013

BY2lqyVCMAArGjoMedarot DUAL has been available at Japanese retail since November 14th, which means we can see how the game was received overseas. There was a lot of trepidation from fans coming into Medarot DUAL as previous action based spinoffs have been of poor quality, but developer Jupiter (Spectrobes, Picross, etc.) seems to have delivered. Japan’s most popular gaming magazine Famitsu gave the game a review score of 8/8/8/8 for a total of 32/40 rewarding Medarot DUAL with a Gold award. This is the best review a Medarot game has received from that publication. User reviews from Amazon have the Kabuto version siting at 4 out of 5 stars, while the Kuwagata version is at 3.5 stars.

Medarot DUAL did not fair nearly as well commercially. According to video game sales tracker Media Create the game sold just 21,454 copies in its first week of sale. Famitsu reports that as of November 24th only 25,043 copies have been sold in Japan with a sell through between 20-40% of all copies shipped. Not only is this significantly lower than what the previous two games in the series sold, it’s well under what Rocket Company had hoped to sell. Japanese blogger Sinobi stated that the publisher had intended to sell 140,000 copies of the game. The company must hope that their post launch will help carry Medarot DUAL to their goal.

The demo sure as hell wasn’t very promising.
